Quail Ridge is a small housing community located in Fort White, Florida. Quail Ridge is minutes away from US-90 to the north and Interstate 75 to the west. Quail Ridge is also 20 minutes from Lake City, the seat of Columbia County. Referred to as "The Gateway To Florida," this area was home to the Utina Native American tribe. In 1539, a Spanish expedition led by Hernando de Soto arrived at Tampa Bay in search of gold. The arrival of the Spanish ultimately led to the establishment of Spanish missionaries not far from where Lake City sits now. In 1821, the United States government took control of the Florida territory. Immigrants and pioneers from the United States formed their settlements near a Native American settlement called Alligator Village. During that period, the Seminole Native Americans resided in Alligator Village, but following the 1823 Treaty of Moultrie Creek, were relocated to a Seminole reservation. In 1832, Columbia County was formed, and Alligator Village became its seat. In 1858, a railroad was built connecting Jacksonville to Alligator, which helped the overall area grow and prosper in various agricultural industries.
