Rolling Pines is a subdivision located in Live Oak, Florida. The modern-day history of this area began thousands of years ago when the Native Americans migrated here. In the mid-16th century, Spanish explorers led by Hernando de Soto arrived in Tampa Bay. Soto and his men then headed north in search of gold where they met the Utina peoples who were part of the larger Timucua Native American tribe. Another tribe encountered by the Spanish were the Seminole who established a settlement in the area of modern-day Live Oak, Lake City, and parts of the surrounding area. The name of the Seminole settlement was Alpata Telophka which translates to "Alligator Village." In 1821, the Spanish relinquished their claim over the Florida territory to the United States government after signing the Transcontinental Treaty. American pioneers and settlers began making their way to the new Florida territory, with some of these settlements formed near a Seminole settlement called Alligator Village. In 1823, the Treaty of Payne's Landing and the Treaty of Moultrie Creek required that the Seminole move to a reservation on the banks of Peace Creek. Settlers took over the area, and Alligator Village was divided into Suwannee and Columbia Counties.
