Three Rivers Estates is a residential community located in the city of Branford, comfortably nestled in the eastern region of Suwannee County. Sitting on the banks of the Suwannee River, Branford is also where U.S. Highway 129 and U.S. Route 27 intersect. Incorporated as a town in 1886, Branford was one of three principal towns in Suwannee County that included Live Oak and Welborn. Before its incorporation, people called it "Rowland's Bluff," but was officially changed to "New Branford" upon its incorporation. At some point in the town's history, the word "New" was dropped and it became "Branford." It began as a loading point for steamboats hauling timber down the Suwannee River to Cedar Key. The timber business was the leading industry in those days. Neighboring towns such as Dowling Park and Live Oak were home to two of the largest sawmills in Florida, while Live Oak used to be the fifth largest city in the state. Suwannee County still boasts the largest mill in the southeastern portion of the United States. In addition to that, brick manufacturing and wholesaling, as well as agriculture thrived in this part of Florida, which placed Branford on the map.
